If you are in your twenties and reading this article, there are some books out there that you absolutely need to get your hands on. These are books from all different genres and authors, but they all have something to offer in terms of your learning and growth as a human being. If you want to do well in life by learning through reading, then these books are for you.
Adulthood Is A Myth
This book by Sarah Andersen tackles the fact that there is a hard lesson to learn in your twenties. That is that adulthood is not it is cracked up to be. Recommended by Business Insider, this book explores the coming of age experience that so many of us have to go through as we enter our twenties and beyond.
There is an idea in our society that once we hit a certain age we become "adults", but the truth is that we never really reach adulthood, we just keep traveling through our lives trying to learn along the way.
Confessions Of A Terrible Husband
This is an interesting one for the male audience that is in their twenties. It explores the life of one man who says that he went from being a self-absorbed jerk to an actual loving and caring husband. It is not something that happens overnight, but it is nice to learn from his experience rather than having to repeat all of the same mistakes.
The Odyssey
"Why is this book on the list?" you might ask yourself. It is often assigned reading in school, but lets be honest and admit that many of us do not actually do the reading that we are assigned in school, even if we claim that we really did do it. However, going back and exploring the Odyssey characters as a twenty-something can be rewarding in its own right. Theirs is a world of fantasy and imagination that can be nice to get caught up in for a while.
White Teeth
Sometimes it is nice to read something written by someone from your age group. That is the case with the book titled "White Teeth". This was written by then 24 year old Zadie Smith. He published this novel about the turn of the millennium city of London. It is a fictional piece, but you will really relate with the characters and the story line according to The New York Times.
Conspiracy Of Fools
This lengthy non-fiction book about the Enron scandal and subsequent bankruptcy is a real human story at its core. Although it would appear to be a tale about numbers and financial transactions on the one hand, the real story behind this is about the characters who made it all happen, and why no one stepped in to stop it.
A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius
This one is an interesting book that could perhaps fit well into its own category altogether. It is a non-fiction piece as well, but it is a bit of an autobiography of sorts. The story is written by Dave Eggers about his real-life experience of losing both his mother and father within weeks of each other. He had to overcome that and be a parental figure to his then eight year old brother. It is amazing for its honesty and storytelling.
The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter And How To Make The Most Of Them
We wrap this list up with an important book from a PhD who writes specifically about the subject of going through your twenties. Some have said that this book is a real eye-opener for them in terms of getting them to pay attention to taking charge of their life rather than always leaving everything on hold. It can help you to refocus on the things that really matter.
