Work, School, And Play: How to Balance all Three
In modern society, we’re constantly on the go. From school, work, and even at home, it seems like there is always an endless to do list that we can never catch up on. Studies show that we are at an all-time high in terms of productivity and busyness. While this can be great for numbers, its incredible detrimental on our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. If you’re having issues maintaining your work, school, and personal life, then we have some tips for you that will help bring some balance into your world.
Early Evenings, Early Mornings
Quick, what’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Do you rush out of bed, scrambling to make breakfast and get to work/school on time? Are you getting enough sleep every night to allow yourself to be able to get up without feeling groggy? Mornings are an important part of your daily routine, as they set the tone for the rest of the day. Waking up with plenty of time to get yourself situated without rushing is the healthiest way to make sure that your day starts right. Don’t make the mistake of staying up too late. Like the old saying goes, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise!”
Exercise Regularly
Another incredibly important routine that most people avoid completely is exercising regularly. We all know it’s something that we should be doing, yet we often ignore our need to do so. There are so many health benefits to exercise, and one of the biggest ones is stress management. If we can mitigate stress in a healthy way, we can think clearly, thus helping ourselves manage the mess that is our personal lives. Find a fitness routine that suits you best, and stick to it!
Share the Workload
While this one most pertains to school and household chores, we can become easily overwhelmed by the number of things that are required from us in the day. If our workload becomes too much, we can slowly begin to sink into apathy and become incredibly unmotivated. One way to help alleviate this problem is to avoid the “I need to take everything on by myself” mindset. If you have to move out of your college dorm, consider a Houston moving company to help you. If you're stuck on an assignment from work, call a friend for help!
Find help when appropriate with daily tasks, and shorten your load. This will help balance the amount of attention that you put on your workload, thus leaving you with spare energy to distribute to other important tasks throughout your day.
Take a Break
Most people who are overachievers and workaholics oftentimes reply with “If only I had the time!” when asked about taking breaks. No matter how busy we can get, there is always time to be made for ourselves. By neglecting our personal needs, stress builds up, and creates a giant can of worms for us to deal with later. While it’s important to be the overachiever you are, if you feel yourself coming close to a breakdown, stop! Do yourself the favor and take a break!
Get a Planner
People often carry their to do lists inside their heads, mulling over every single item that they need to do during the day. Unbeknownst to them, this burns much more mental energy than they think it does, wearing them thinner, quicker. Writing down your schedule in a planner, or in an app, is a fantastic way to get organized and get a handle on your busy schedule. By doing this, you won’t have to carry that information around with you everywhere, and can simply look in it when ready to complete your next task.
With the holidays ending, we should take it upon ourselves to find ways to balance our personal lives going into 2018. Taking the old habits, letting them go, and adopting healthier ones is what will make a massive difference in our lives. Follow these tips to find some balance in your life if you’re experiencing some turbulence, and always remember to take time for yourself if need be.
