Happiness is one of the most elusive states of being. Everyone we meet is simply trying to find a way to be happy. Most people believe that being happy is something that will be achieved once you become rich or get married or have children. It takes more than acquiring something tangible to create happiness. Sometimes happiness is something that you must create instead of find.
1. Surroundings
It's amazing how substantial of an effect the environment in which you're living can have on both your mental and physical health. If you surround yourself with negative, unmotivated people, their mentality will eventually secrete into your own mentality. Carefully choose with whom you surround yourself for you are a sum of the five people with whom you spend the most time. Make sure these people are positive and will improve your life in some way.
Your home and work surroundings will also play a key role in your overall well being. If your home environment is unstable, oppressive, or abusive then it stands to reason that you will not be able to function at your best. Work surroundings can also affect your productivity and your sense of purpose and accomplishment. If you are unappreciated at work, you'll feel it's pointless to put in more effort.
Should you need to change your home environment, consider moving to another place or starting a new life in a new city. If you're financially unable to do this, try listening to relaxing music or spending more time outside away from your home environment.
2. Health
The backbone of your happiness stems directly from your health status. If you're constantly sick or tired, you're going to find it very difficult to be happy. Additionally, the status of your health can greatly affect your ability to accomplish tasks, whether they be big or small. Being unable to accomplish simple everyday tasks can leave you feeling depressed, disheartened, and defeated.
To improve your health and your happiness, revolutionize your diet. Start refraining from drinking alcohol and sodas on a daily basis. Replace those drinks with refreshing teas or natural flavor-infused water. You can also begin purchasing whole fruits and vegetables to increase your intake of vitamins and minerals. If you're too busy to go grocery shopping for healthy food, you can always call a local grocery delivery service for a healthy food delivery right to your front door.
3. Career
Our career can have a profound impact on our happiness. If we feel that the work we're doing on a daily basis is good for us, our family, and our community then we feel better about ourselves. Being emotionally fulfilled by our career is directly connected to our productivity. If we love the work that we do, we'll work harder at it and commit to a long-term position in that career. Love of work and career promotes stability, purpose, and excitement.
If your productivity is decreasing and dread fills your heart every time you step into work, it's time to change your career. You can begin choosing your next career by figuring out what it is that brings you joy. Many people have turned their leisurely hobbies into a career. Find something you absolutely love to do and figure out a way to turn it into a job. Alternatively, you can try finding a position in a completely different field than the one you're in just to see if the new work is more fulfilling.
4. Relationships
Due to a combination of reluctance to change, fear of being alone, and lack of self-esteem, many people remain in unhappy or unhealthy relationships far longer than they should. An unhappy or unhealthy relationship can become extremely toxic to your mental and physical health. A toxic relationship can even cause your personality to change in negative or destructive ways. There are steps you can take to leave an unhealthy relationship.
On your journey of creating a happy and more fulfilling life, things will not always work out in your favor. Defeat is a state that you will know often, but you don't have to remain there. Take some time to evaluate where you are and where you want to be before trying again. Don't be afraid to take a different path to get to the same destination.
